Island Affair by Priscilla Oliveras is a stand out romance that literally stole my heart.
First of all, the author nails the fake fiancé trope, one of my favorites!
The characters were complex, flawed and well fleshed out. I really loved Sara and Luiz’s story.
Sara Vance is a social media influencer and heads to Key West to meet with her mom and celebrate that her mom has overcome cancer. Her boyfriend was supposed to be there with her, but cuts out .
Can we talk about the greatest Meet Cute?
Sarah is in the airport crying and in walks Luiz, a Firefighter whose home is in Key West and she asks him to fill in for her boyfriend, just for a week.
The author has an incredible gift for descriptive writing and the description of Key West and Mallory Square was so fantastic, I felt like I was immersed in the island with my toes in the sand. I cannot forget the food! The descriptions of the food were fantastic and I was craving a cuban sandwich more than once.
I appreciate more than I can possibly say how the author handled the topics of cancer, eating disorders and mental health and how Sara and Luiz dealt with these issues.
Another theme that I really enjoyed while reading the story was forgiveness, forgiving ourselves and others around us and how this can impact our relationships.
An incredible romance read that was so much more. I look forward to reading the next book in this fantastic Keys to Love Series.
