2019 Already?
I cannot believe it is 2019 Already! How did everyone do with their reading goals? I know not everyone has them, but I find it to be a fun way to look back and see what I read. In 2018, I read 157 books, not too shabby. I have a goal of 200 for 2019.
Instead of highlighting books I read in 2018, I am choosing to highlight some new to me authors. So today I wanted to talk about a new to me author, Cathy Lamb.
I feel like I must of been hiding under a rock to have not found her writing before this year. I read her newest book, The Man She Married and I was blown away! 5 glorious amazing stars!
Read my review of the Man She Married on Goodreads . Did you know today you can grab this amazing book on Amazon for only $2.99? That is a steal!
This was the first book I read of Cathy Lamb’s and I have gone on to read two more of her books in 2018 that were equally as fabulous! Check out her website to learn more about Cathy Lamb.
Comment and let me know what your reading and if you have found any great new to you authors in 2018!
Until the next chapter,

Book Club
Ahh the ever elusive book club. It shouldn’t be, but for some reason it is. A little background. I grew up in Connecticut and had a great life, good friends, a good job but I was missing something and that was my family. My sister and my nephew had been in Maine for as long as I can remember and I had a longing to be around what was left of my family. So four years ago I packed up my books and my other less important things (furniture, clothes) and moved to Maine.
I never found a book club in Connecticut, and it had been 4 years and still no book club in Maine. I do belong to some amazing online book clubs and facebook groups that I love but I longed for an in-person book club. So I took things into my own hands, LOL!
I posted in one of the groups, and I found someone that wanted to form a book club with me and we are SO EXCITED! We did try to find others in our area, but when we couldn’t we decided that we would start with two people. One of my best friends always tells me , “You have to start somewhere” so that’s what we did. My co-founder of our book club came up with a fitting name “Maine Duo Book Club”. I felt the need to create a facebook group, though as you would guess, there are only two members.
July is our first meeting and we have decided to read “The Last Time I Lied” by Riley Sager. We both have heard so many good things about it and we are really excited!

I will post my reviews after I am done. Anyone read this? Let me know your thoughts.

A Gathering of Secrets-Linda Castillo
I was thrilled to have received an advanced reader copy (ARC) of “A Gathering of Secretes” by Linda Castillo from Minotaur Books. If you haven’t read any books by Linda, you definitely need to change that.
This is my review that has been posted to Good Reads and Amazon:
A Gathering of Secrets is book # 10 in the Kate Burkholder series and let me tell you when I say they keep getting better , THEY DO! I could not put this book down. Read it in one sitting.
Chief of Police Kate Burkholder is back on duty when a historic barn burns to the ground and she is called in to investigate. At first it does look like an accident, until an 18 year old’s body is found burned alive.
Kate has to work her way through several suspects, secretes, lies and a community that protects their own. Kate has to look at her own past to find her way to the truth.
Linda Castillo is masterful a creating a mystery and this one will leave you guessing until the very end!!

Baby Teeth…the book!
I have been talking about this book basically since I received an email from St. Martin’s Press that a free excerpt was available to read. The first 10 chapters of the book are free on amazon and can be found Here!
I was fortunate enough to receive an Advanced Readers Copy (ARC) of this book on 05/19/2018. Let me tell you this book is Good! Baby Teeth is a debut novel by Zoje Stage and it is unlike any book you have ever read.
From Amazon:
“Afflicted with a chronic debilitating condition, Suzette Jensen knew having children would wreak havoc on her already fragile body. Nevertheless, she brought Hanna into the world, pleased and proud to start a family with her husband Alex. Estranged from her own mother, Suzette is determined to raise her beautiful daughter with the love, care, and support she was denied.
But Hanna proves to be a difficult child. Now seven-years-old, she has yet to utter a word, despite being able to read and write. Defiant and anti-social, she refuses to behave in kindergarten classes, forcing Suzette to homeschool her. Resentful of her mother’s rules and attentions, Hanna lashes out in anger, becoming more aggressive every day. The only time Hanna is truly happy is when she’s with her father. To Alex, she’s willful and precocious but otherwise the perfect little girl, doing what she’s told.
Suzette knows her clever and manipulative daughter doesn’t love her. She can see the hatred and jealousy in her eyes. And as Hanna’s subtle acts of cruelty threaten to tear her and Alex apart, Suzette fears her very life may be in grave danger…”
This book will leave you guessing until the very end and has received rave views.

Lets Get Cozy
One of my favorite genres of books are cozy mysteries. I am often surprised that even the most avid readers don’t know what a cozy mystery is. Cozy mysteries , also called “cozies”, are a subgenre of crime fiction where sex and violence are treated humorously. The characters in these books are almost always amateurs and almost always women. The murders take place off screen and the violence is never described in the book. Sexual activity, even between married characters is only slightly implied and sometimes it is often avoided completely. What drew me to cozy mysteries is that cat lovers are prominent in cozy mysteries, and quite often a cat is an important part of the story.
There are so many wonderful cozy mystery authors, but I do have a favorite. Her name is Leighann Dobbs.
The first book I read of hers is “Ghostly Paws” which is Book 1 in the Mystic Notch Cozy Mystery Series. There are currently six books in this series. This is a synopsis of Ghostly Paws as seen on Amazon.
Middle age can be murder …
At least that’s how it seems to former crime journalist, Wilhelmina Chance, whose near-fatal accident has given her a strange side effect … she sees ghosts.
After a messy divorce sends her fleeing back to her hometown of Mystic Notch, nestled in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, Willa finds herself haunted by the tenacious ghost of the town librarian who insists Willa solve her murder.
Luckily, she has lots of help, including a quirky cast of small-town characters, the cat she’s inherited from her grandmother, and her best friend, Pepper, who claims her herbal teas can work magic.
But just when Willa thinks she’s discovered who the killer is, she finds out that things are not what they seem in Mystic Notch, and the case takes a strange turn that has Willa adding even some of her long-time friends to her suspect list.
Can Willa find the real killer in time to keep the magical balance in Mystic Notch on the side of good, or will evil prevail?
The Mystic Notch series is free with Kindle Unlimited on Amazon. Find this book on Amazon.

There are so many other wonderful cozy mystery writers I enjoy and I will be talking about them more in the future.
