DL give away march

The author of the Love in Provence series returns to the South of France with a poignant portrait of a woman who must learn how to create a new life for herself…

Sixty-two-year-old Arianna arrives in the South of France for a two-week artists’ workshop full of anticipation but burdened by guilt. Back home in Toronto, she has been living with the devastating diagnosis of her husband’s dementia and the heartbreak of watching the man she has loved for decades slip away before her eyes. What does her future hold without Ben? Before her is a blank canvas.

Encouraged by her family to take some time for herself, she has traveled to Arles to set up her easel in the same fields of poppies and sunflowers that inspired Van Gogh. Gradually, she rediscovers the inner artist she abandoned long ago. Drawing strength from the warm companionship and gentle wisdom of her fellow artists at the retreat—as well as the vitality of guest lecturer Jacques de Villeneuve, an artist and a cowboy—Arianna searches her heart for permission to embrace the life in front of her and, like the sunflowers, once again face the light.

Highlight: The Killing Girl by Summer Prescott

About the author:

Summer Prescott is a USA Today and Wall Street Journal Best-Selling Author, who has penned nearly one hundred Cozy Mysteries, and one rather successful Thriller, The Quiet Type, which debuted in the top 50 of its genre. As owner of Summer Prescott Books Publishing, Summer is responsible for a combined catalog of over two hundred Cozy Mysteries and Thrillers. Mentoring and helping new Cozy writers launch their careers has long been a passion of Summer’s, and she has played a key role in the incredible success of Cozy writers such as Patti Benning and Carolyn Q. Hunter.

Summer enjoys travel, and was a featured speaker at the International Writer’s Conference in Cuenca, Ecuador, in May 2018. The event draws writers from all over the world.

In an exciting development, Summer has recently been asked to write monthly for her favorite magazine, Atomic Ranch. Having been an Interior Decorator before giving up her business to write full-time, Summer is thrilled by the opportunity and looking forward to having her writing published in the only magazine to which she actually subscribes.

Summer is a doting mother to four grown children, and lives in Champaign, Illinois with her Standard Poodle, Elvis.

Let me start off by saying that anyone that follows my blog KNOWS my two favorite genres of books are cozy mysteries and psychological thrillers. I first discovered Summer Prescott’s writing when I came across her “INNCredibly Sweet” Mystery Series. It is a great culinary cozy mystery series.

When I found out that Summer was writing a psychological thriller featuring a female serial killer, I had to get my grabby hands on it. It takes a very talented author to be able to cross genres the way in which Summer Prescott does.

He’s the only one who ever accepted her. Who even maybe loved her, in his own strange way. And then, he left her, which could turn out to be a deadly mistake.
Her husband Tim, a mild-mannered mortician, has packed his bags and fled, a fugitive from his homicidal wife. She wants him, and what Susannah wants, she gets.

2019 Already?

I cannot believe it is 2019 Already! How did everyone do with their reading goals? I know not everyone has them, but I find it to be a fun way to look back and see what I read. In 2018, I read 157 books, not too shabby. I have a goal of 200 for 2019.

Instead of highlighting books I read in 2018, I am choosing to highlight some new to me authors. So today I wanted to talk about a new to me author, Cathy Lamb.

I feel like I must of been hiding under a rock to have not found her writing before this year. I read her newest book, The Man She Married and I was blown away! 5 glorious amazing stars!

Read my review of the Man She Married on  Goodreads . Did you know today you can grab this amazing book on Amazon for only $2.99? That is a steal!

This was the first book I read of Cathy Lamb’s and I have gone on to read two more of her books in 2018 that were equally as fabulous! Check out her website to learn more about Cathy Lamb.

Comment and let me know what your reading and if you have found any great new to you authors in 2018!

Until the next chapter,

Book Club

Ahh the ever elusive book club. It shouldn’t be, but for some reason it is. A little background. I grew up in Connecticut and had a great life, good friends, a good job but I was missing something and that was my family. My sister and my nephew had been in Maine for as long as I can remember and I had a longing to be around what was left of my family. So four years ago I packed up my  books and my other less important things (furniture, clothes) and moved to Maine.

I never found a book club in Connecticut, and it had been 4 years and still no book club in Maine. I do belong to some amazing online book clubs and facebook groups that I love but I longed for an in-person book club. So I took things into my own hands, LOL!

I posted in one of the groups, and I found someone that wanted to form a book club with me and we are SO EXCITED! We did try to find others in our area, but when we couldn’t we decided that we would start with two people. One of my best friends always tells me , “You have to start somewhere” so that’s what we did.  My co-founder of our book club came up with a fitting name “Maine Duo Book Club”. I felt  the need to create a facebook group, though as you would guess, there are only two members.

July is our first meeting and we have decided to read “The Last Time I Lied” by Riley Sager. We both have heard so many good things about it and we are really excited!

last time

I will post my reviews after I am done. Anyone read this? Let me know your thoughts.

A Gathering of Secrets-Linda Castillo

I was thrilled to have received an advanced reader copy (ARC) of “A Gathering of Secretes” by Linda Castillo from Minotaur Books.   If you haven’t read any books by Linda, you definitely need to change that.

This is my review that has been posted to Good Reads and Amazon:

A Gathering of Secrets is book # 10 in the Kate Burkholder series and let me tell you when I say they keep getting better , THEY DO! I could not put this book down. Read it in one sitting.

Chief of Police Kate Burkholder is back on duty when a historic barn burns to the ground and she is called in to investigate. At first it does look like an accident, until an 18 year old’s body is found burned alive.

Kate has to work her way through several suspects, secretes, lies and a community that protects their own. Kate has to look at her own past to find her way to the truth.

Linda Castillo is masterful a creating a mystery and this one will leave you guessing until the very end!!

Pick up A Gathering of Secrets today!
